Some movies are like circles, they are never definitive. They are like echoes. Others go in straight lines; the lines might be short and conclusive, some are wavy whereas others might just go on and on, thick at times, thin at times. MOST (czech for The Bridge), a short film by Bobby Garabadien is a circle of thoughts , where the protagonist, a bridge-operator (played by Vladimir Javorsky) is seen to be leading a content life along with his son, Lada (played by Ladislav Onrej), where the former wants to see things in the world; he speaks loud, that he wants to discover something and he is at times sad when he doesnt. The film starts on the softness of the czech winter potraying emotions of different people; a universal truth of time, being common for everyone, and yet so different for everyone. It shows the relation between a father and a son, and how important is the latter's presence is to fill his life. And they have their moments of happiness and its almost as if they are completing each other's void. The movie moves on at a comfortable pace for the first 15 minutes, till the tragedy strikes and Lada dies in an attempt to lower the bridge for the approaching train and the protagonist left to make the decision to sabe the life of his son or of the hundreds of passengers on the train. MOST also is about change, and how things change for a young girl (Linda Rybova), who being in trouble in life and addicted to heroin, witnesses this shocking act of courage and hence gets changed forever. The finale brings the slow close back to the movie with a closure to the change in the lives of both, the protagonist as well as the troubled girl. The beauty of the movie lies in its smooth pace where Garabadien has not wasted time on fillers; he has infact used the fillers to add to the strength of the story line. He makes a subtle overfeel of the cold unchanging weather; and reflected subliminally without changing the atmosphere, the emotions of happiness and sadness. I, however, feel that he rushed into the last part of "the change" and could have smoothened the transition. But, on second thoughts, he also wanted the change to be communicated through an impact, and he does that successfully.

MOST is a well made movie and Garabadient recreates the same atmosphere as would Majid Majidi, but is quicker and sharp, which makes it pretty dense. Not to be missed !
